Health Update

As I mentioned in my recent post, Catching Up, I was in the hospital last week with chest pains. Fortunately, all the tests were negative. Tomorrow morning I will be wired up and and forced to run on a treadmill as the speed and incline increase until:
a) I reached the desired sustained heart rate for the desired amount of time
b) I have a heart attack
c) I stumble, fall and break my nose on the hand rail. (I’m hoping for "a" but "c" is a distinct possibility. I’m not the most coordinated person in the world!)
The directions say that I should expect to be fatigued at the completion of the test. They obviously haven’t met my trainer for whom this test is just a warm up exercise!
I do have a lot of risk factors for heart disease, hence the test. I’m overweight (but I’ve lost 100 lbs over the past two years), I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol (both under control with medication), and diabetes (under control with diet and exercise. Also, both my parents died of heart disease, my dad having his first heart attack when he was only four years older than I am now. So, I’m looking at this as a wise precautionary measure.
I’m confident things will go well. As Zaphod Beeblebrox once said, "Whatever we find, we find."
